I come to you asking a question oppo. Does this E30 make you... Upset? As far as E30 "Purest" builds go this is pretty cut and clean, S54, 5 speed, no crazy body work. I mean it's still sporting an S series engine.
S54, Air ride, real M3 chassis.
EDIT: Had to add this photo to emphasize it's on air

A little too much drop for my taste but I like the rims and the color
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:17 |

How does it turn???

As an E30 fanboy,
As long as it's an E30 and orange, me gusta!
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:17 |
|
To be fair it is on air suspension, so in those photos it is completely aired out.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:18 |

Not sure why this would make anyone upset - nice looking car with lots of goodies!
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:18 |

It's on air suspension.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:18 |

Absolutely disgusting. There's nothing that looks good about a tire that sticks up into the wheel well. It looks like a god damn overgrown wart.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:18 |

I know! If it had a 2JZ and a crazy wing/body kit with JDM stickerz yo I could see it upsetting purest guys, but not this...

Air..... Suspension....
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:20 |
|
In that case I don't mind so much...if you can bring it back up.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:20 |
|
I added another photo, it can air out pretty low, about as low as my first E30.... :)
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:21 |
|
Yeah I like the last one...just enough drop for me.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:21 |

Frank Ocean's M3 is my dream vehicle.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:22 |
|
A major part of what made the original M3 fantastic was it's fantastic suspension setup. Throwing out all the work the M engineers did on that for air suspension (for purely cosmetic reasons, I can only assume) makes exactly zero sense to me.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:23 |
|
Yes, that's how you get it that low while keeping it functional. Doesn't mean everybody has to like this extremely lowered look.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:23 |
|
It's possible that the 26 year old suspension was on it's way out. The newest air ride set up is arguably better than a 26 year old set up, not saying it is but it could be argued. I'll agree an E30 on air is a little odd.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:23 |

I......don't.....care
It looks like fucking ass and it will always look like fucking ass whenever it's done.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:24 |
|
I have to assume that not everyone knows what air ride is and assumes this is static.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:25 |
|
Just had to assume you didn't realize it was on air since apparently not many people know what that is.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:26 |
|
Air ride is definitely not cool. These cars are known for their handling, and air suspension is detrimental to that*.
Not quite so concerned by the S54. I'd prefer if they didn't do it to a genuine M3. There's plenty of 318is that would benefit even more by being converted into an S54-powered M3 equivalent.
*I found out why the other day. Apparently compressed air doesn't have a linear spring rate as it's compressed, so it varies as it loads up. Not good for progressive handling.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:26 |
|
Did you mean "purist"? Or is a purest build something I am not familiar with?
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:28 |
|
They could have used my old 318is as a donor for an S54 swap... And given it back to me!
And yeah air is not as good for all around handling, unless you run coilovers with air which is a thing. But it limits your maximum low which sort of defeats the purpose.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:29 |

"Purest" as in the license plate. Otherwise I wouldn't have put it in quotes.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:30 |
|
I've never driven one, but hearing the way people talk about this car, I think it's something that would be hard to improve on. It was a true homologation special, after all.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:32 |
|
I've driven and owned quite a few E30's, never owned an E30 M3 but I've driven one and the ride is exceptional even on stock suspension.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:35 |
|
Wait, please tell me "purest" (like "illest") isn't an actual term people are using now. Like it's just this guy's license plate right?
Anyway, I don't mind the color, bodywork, interior, or motor. Things I dislike:
Compomotive wheels with O.Z. decals on them
YOKOHAMA spray paint trying to make street tires (and not even particularly good ones) look like slicks
Air suspension - ok it's not as bad as dumping the car on cut springs but it adds weight, complexity, and doesn't make for a particularly good car all in the name of being hellaflush yo
Bigass show car stereo - more unnecessary weight
I would happily take this car, rip out the stereo, ditch the air ride for a properly sorted performance setup, and swap the wheels & tires. There's a lot of good there, but the show car stuff I can do without.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:37 |
|
I think it was just used as an adjective to describe the car. Never seen it elsewhere. And yeah I agree with you on everything haha. Except the OZ's... I like those.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:41 |
|
10/10 would dragon
But seriously, that's a great looking E30.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:41 |
|
I don't like E30 M3s to begin with, but this is ridiculous. Fitting it with air ride eliminates one of the car's alleged best traits. Sure it makes hard parkers tumescent, but at what cost?
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:43 |
|
Fun.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:46 |

There are many things that are awesome about this car and a few questionable choices.
Awesome: The s54 motor, the MHW Startec tail lights, the headlights, the color of the car (old BMW 2002 color), the Compomotive th wheels
Not so awesome: OZ Racing decals on Compomotive wheels? Compomotives are cool on their own, OZ's are cool on their own, so why? Also the air ride suspension. I have never been in a car with this brand but from the other cars I have been in air ride has really not stacked up against coilovers or even spring/strut. Also whats with the vinyl on the hood?
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:46 |
|
Lol, I should've caught that. People and their silly vanity plates... Lol.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:51 |
|
This is what I'm saying. Why degrade the inherent goodness of a car? I'm all for modifying it to make it better, but I just don't get making changes that go against what's initially great about a given car. See also: lowered 4x4 pickups
![]() 03/27/2014 at 09:58 |

While I must say that I don't really 'get' low, this is my favourite one. Mainly because it's low to aid performance.
They lowered it by extending the shock-mounts upwards so it kept the same suspension travel. They even welded little bubbles onto the bonnet to clear them :)

That sounded like a challenge …. now I'm upset.

Is this the car from Ultra Nostalgia cover? (or whatever, not googling it right now)

This is my opinion to the exact. Get out of my brain!

Similar, but no, this is Frank's E30 M3

E30 M3 sedan... All my Hnnnnng

Bagged pickups are good tow rigs to be fair, much better for towing, better fuel economy and way more comfortable. But that's all it makes them better for.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 10:20 |

Fire orange is the best color.
Not sure what's up with the vinyl either.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 10:22 |

Thats the one! I'd be Frank's gay lover if it meant a time share with this car..
![]() 03/27/2014 at 10:24 |

It's actually an Audi 80 Quattro, but it's no less awesome for that fact :)
Speaking of E30 M3 saloons though...
![]() 03/27/2014 at 10:24 |

1. I'm cool with that.
2. Anything with Jagermeister works!
3. Now that is sacrilege.
4. That grin...

Forgot to post the picture... Now I look silly

Oh gotcha. Kickass :) the only one I'd heard of was the red one I posted.
I do love the idea of a 4-door M3. Very Australian in concept.

You like the "O.Z." wheels even though they're not O.Z. wheels?
![]() 03/27/2014 at 10:56 |
|
When I think of air ride I think of Cadillac comfort, but I've never driven a car that has it. Maybe things have changed since they first came out? Lets say he wanted to take this car to do a trackday.. would it handle? Or has he turned into nothing but a stanced cruiser now? If the latter....thats really sad.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 11:00 |
|
I like it, I think it looks great, but maybe a set of different wheels for me.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 11:02 |
|
Definitely. A lowered Jeep or other off-road 4x4 is more along the lines of what I meant.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 11:19 |
|
If it is a E30 M3, I'd want it to still have the S14 and still be original, or close too (close too being track prepped), but if it's a lesser E30, I say go crazy.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 11:24 |
|
They are compomotive and saying they are different is kind of pointless. I can't tell the difference without getting up close. Says he just didn't like the asymmetrical design of the comp. stickers. It's like putting Miro centers on a Varrstoen. Same wheel.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 11:25 |
|
Air ride handles OK. Not as good as coilovers (some would disagree) but coils do the job better if you get good ones.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 11:25 |
|
I like one-offs like these. The E30 M3 touring is my favorite hands down.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 11:31 |
|
Yep. Would hoon. Would nuke the airbags from orbit and install more function-over-drop suspension on it, though.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 11:38 |

The S54 is the perfect engine for this car in my opinion. Just in terms of power delivery.
![]() 03/27/2014 at 11:49 |

Those wheels... I wonder how a set would look on my Passat? :)
![]() 03/27/2014 at 12:16 |

Very good!

Should've been BMW's metallic orange, but otherwise I don't really see anything not to like, except maybe the spoiler. I can live with the spoiler.

The height I'm good with. Its close to the Group A E30's height. The bags not really. I get that its to make it more functional but it takes away from the performance. I'd rather just see one that low with modified suspension so that it can be that low and functional.
